Acer To Manufacture 5 Lakh Laptops In India Annually Under ‘Make In India’ Initiative

Taiwanese multinational hardware and PC brand Acer announced on Thursday that it will manufacture 5 lakh laptops in India annually in partnership with Dixon Technologies under the Government of India’s ‘Make In India’ initiative. The laptops will be manufactured at Dixon’s state-of-the-art manufacturing facility that is located in Noida, Uttar Pradesh. The manufacturing unit was inaugurated yesterday by Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology joint secretary Saurabh Gaur in the presence of Dixon Technologies Executive Chairman Sunil Vachani, Acer India President & Managing Director Harish Kohli, and Acer India Chief Business Officer Sudhir Goel.

Acer stated in a press release that it will bring the global know-how and processes to manufacture high-tech electronic products in the laptops category which will be implemented through Dixon’s facilities. Acer also stated that this initiative will help to grow the electronic manufacturing ecosystem and help it grow to serve domestic and global markets from India. As per Acer, the PLI for IT hardware brought by the Government of India is a game-changer that will have the advantage to increase domestic value addition and significantly position India as a key export hub.

Acer said in its press release that the new initiative will give a strong impetus to India’s manufacturing competitiveness and leverage the production-linked incentive (PLI) by the Government of India.
