Adani, one of the key players in the global energy market has jumped into the EV space today. The Adani Group set up a new firm, Adani Total Gas Ltd (ATGL), a joint venture between the Adani Group and French energy company TotalEnergies SE, and announced plans to set up a total of 1,500 EV charging stations across the country.
As part of this announcement, the company unveiled its first electric vehicle charging station (EVCS) in Ahmedabad. The EVCS, located at ATGL’s CNG station at Maninagar in Ahmedabad, will also provide an EV charging option. This is just the first EVCS that the company has greenlit as part of a larger rollout.

According to a statement from the company, it has kept an expansion plan ready to move beyond 1500 EVCS based on the demand generation and momentum building of the EV ecosystem in the country.
ATGL Venturing Into Electric Mobility Segment
ATGL is already a key mobility player in the country and runs a large network of CNG filling stations across India. This will prove an advantage for the company, which is now venturing into the electric mobility segment. ATGL claims to capture a sizeable market share in the EVCS space, which is expected to see an uptick anytime in the country. The company also has plans to work with Adani Group’s capacity to generate renewable power and further leverage other group entities to provide better synergy.
At the EVCS announcement, Adani Total Gas Ltd’s CEO, Suresh P Manglani, said, “The Commencement of EV business with setting up the first charging station in Ahmedabad is yet another milestone for Adani Total Gas to provide a choice of newer green fuel to the larger consumer base in India while timely ceasing an emerging business opportunity aligned to our vision to offer sustainable fuelling solutions on across all major cities and towns in India”.
