Amazon Launched A Giant Echo Show With 15-Inch Display, Blink Video Doorbell

Amazon has added another member to its Echo smart display lineup. Dubbed Echo Show 15, this smart display comes with a large 15.6-inch screen. It can sit on a table or you can choose to install it on a wall, you know, like a TV. Amazon is pushing it as a family organisation gadget that can answer your queries, enable you to catch up on podcasts, stream videos, find recipes, and even double up as a digital photo frame.

Amazon Echo Show 15 Features

The Amazon Echo Show 15 has a clean look with bezels that mimic the photo frame, similar to Samsung’s The Frame TV. While that’s an interesting aesthetics decision, it leaves you with thick borders. As per Amazon, this smart display can be installed in landscape or portrait mode. To place it on a countertop, you will have to purchase a compatible stand.

The 15.6-inch screen has Full HD resolution (1,920 x 1,080 pixels). The Echo Show 15 has a 5MP front-facing camera that is embedded into its frame. It can connect to the home network and other gadgets over dual-band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.0. The Echo Show 15 has two 1.6-inch full-range drivers to deliver audio. The smart display is powered by an Amlogic PopcornA octa-core processor and it is paired with the Amazon AZ2 neural engine chipset.

The Echo Show features Alexa-powered widgets to enable family members to share sticky notes, shopping lists, and reminders between them. Members can also set up and manage their personal profiles using the visual ID feature that uses the camera to identify users. The smart display supports apps such as Audible, Netflix, Prime Video, Spotify, and more. When it is on standby mode, the Echo Show can display your albums from Facebook.

Amazon Blink Video Doorbell Features

Along with the Echo Show, Amazon also introduced its Blink Video Doorbell. It offers the convenience of getting notified about a visitor right on your smartphone. The doorbell can be used as a wire-free device or you can choose to connect it to your existing chime. Let’s find out more about its features.

The doorbell sports a Full HD 1080p 30fps video camera with night vision. It has a 135-degree field of view. It can capture still images at a resolution of 640 x 360 pixels. For two-way communication, the doorbell is equipped with a microphone and a loudspeaker. It connects to your home network over Wi-Fi. The Blink Video Doorbell requires a couple of AA batteries. The lack of an inbuilt rechargeable battery sounds like a bad idea. However, on the bright side, you won’t have to deal with puffed batteries in the future.

Apart from notifying you when someone rings a bell, the Blink Video Doorbell can alert you even when it detects motion. The doorbell comes with a 30-day trial of a Blink subscription plan that enables you to save video clips on the cloud. By purchasing the optional Sync Module 2, you can also save data locally.

The Amazon Echo Show 15 is priced at $250 (around ₹18,700) in the US. It is currently marked as “coming soon” with no word on its release date. The Blink Video Doorbell will retail for $50 (around ₹3,700). It is up for pre-order in the US starting today. So far, the e-commerce giant has not shared its plans for the global release.
