Android 12 has still not reached a considerable number of smartphones yet, but leaks and rumours surrounding Google’s upcoming Android iteration, Android 13, have already started popping up on the internet. As per a new report, smartphones and tablets launching with Android 13 may be able to load games faster than their predecessors owing to a short boost in their CPU speeds. The new GAME_LOADING feature is reportedly being tested at the SoC vendor level on Android 13 and will become a necessity for devices booting Android 13 or later.

Here’s the tweet by Mishaal, which consists of the code snippets:
As per Mishaal, a new API is set to allow games to communicate their current operational state to the OS. If a game reports to be loading, the OS would react to it by pinging the power management and then the CPU for a required speed boost, thereby cutting down on load times.

The feature is currently being tested at the SoC vendor level and will be needed for the future devices that come with Android 13 out of the box. For now, the Pixel devices supporting the GAME_LOADING boost upgrade have been patched to enable the same, but devices from OEMs might not enjoy similar treatment, as the change requires an SoC-level hardware intervention and the chip manufacturers might not entertain Google’s newest update at a vendor level. However, the next-generation smartphones will definitely see the new feature natively, so your next Android purchase might help you enjoy faster game load times.
