The reincarnated electric avatar of the Bajaj Chetak has completed two years in the Indian market. Bajaj will now be selling the electric scooter in 20 cities in India. Initially, the scooter was only available in eight Indian cities. Now, Bajaj Auto has added 12 new cities taking the total tally to 20. You will be able to check out the scooter in the flesh and also own one in the cities of Coimbatore, Madurai, Kochi, Kozhikode, Hubli, Visakhapatnam, Nashik, Vasai, Surat, Delhi, Mumbai, and Mapusa.
Rakesh Sharma, Executive Director, Bajaj Auto said:
Chetak’s success has been built on the quality of a thoroughly tested, dependable product. An on-ground network of sales and service reduces the anxiety of a customer venturing into an unfamiliar category such as electric scooters. Our plan is to double Chetak’s network in the coming few weeks to accommodate the high demand.

In comparison, TVS and Hero Electric, two of the established brands sell more units of their EVs. Even new startups such as Ather, Okinawa, and Ampere have managed to trump Bajaj’s electric scooter sales.
Rajiv Bajaj, Managing Director of Bajaj Auto, at the Bajaj Pulsar 250 launch event had commented, “I am going to bet on BET- Bajaj, Enfield and TVS, they’re champions and they have a proven track record.” He also stated, “We are champions and champions eat OATS (Ola, Ather, Tork Motors and SmartE) for breakfast.”
With the announcement of new cities and a 300 crore fund allocation, Bajaj Auto is looking to ramp up the production of its Chetak Electric. The company looks to sell more units now and is prepped up to face the challenge from the likes of Ola. Now, who gets a bigger piece of the pie when it comes to the electric scooter segment, remains to be seen.
The Bajaj Chetak Electric comes with a durable and long-lasting steel body construction. The battery is IP67 certified for dust and water resistance. The scooter offers a range of up to 90 kilometres IDC (Indian Driving Cycle) in Eco mode. It charges fully in five hours. You get 50,000 kilometres or a three-year battery warranty coverage. You can book the vehicle via Bajaj’s official website or via offline dealerships. The Chetak Electric scooter comes in Urbane and Premium variants and is priced at around ex-showroom ₹1,40,000. The prices differ state-wise. It costs ₹1,19,684 ex-showroom in Maharashtra, which has excellent subsidy schemes for EVs in place.
