After Google’s Pixel smartphones, Chrome OS will now get the Adaptive Charging feature. Chromebooks are popular for their excellent battery backup owing to the lightweight nature of the Chrome OS. Leave alone Windows laptops, Chromebooks can even outrun some Android smartphones in terms of battery life. Now, this feature will help the batteries to degrade slower, so that your Chrome OS powered device will serve you well for many years.
Chromebooks, like most Windows laptops, are powered by Lithium-Ion batteries, which are believed to lose some percentage of charge capacity over the years. With the advent of fast charging, batteries tend to degrade even faster. However, by adopting some useful techniques, you can increase the lifespan of your battery.

Slow charging means lesser heat generated by the battery, which helps in preserving the battery capacity.
Now it seems that Google is very close to implementing the Adaptive Charging feature in the Chrome OS. Most people leave their laptops/Chromebooks plugged in while working, which could have adverse effects on their battery health. According to a code, the Adaptive Charging feature on the Chrome OS will utilise machine learning to intelligently analyse and prolong the battery health.
Major Android smartphone manufacturers like OnePlus, Realme, Xiaomi etc. have adaptive charging features running on their devices. Apple’s iPhone and MacBooks too offer similar charging tech. It is unclear at this point whether Google would be providing this feature via an OTA (Over The Air) update to existing Chrome OS devices.
