Chromecast with Google TV finally gets a fresh update, which brings the May 2022 security patch, alongside some other improvements to the plug-and-play device. The last update to the device was rolled out seven months ago. Considering the long gap, users were expecting more than just an updated security patch. Notably, the Chromecast with Google is still running Android 10, and it has been expected of the firm to update it to the latest Android TV version.

The latest update brings along the May 2022 security patch. Besides, Google lists three bugs fixes and improvements for the device as follows:
- Platform improvements to help some apps, with HDR 4K video playing and DRM video playback
- Additional bug fixes and performance improvements
- Additional improvements to Wi-Fi/Bluetooth
To download the 2022 Chromecast with Google TV update, click your profile image in the top-right corner and head to Settings > System > About > System update. Do note that the OTA (Over-The-Air) update is 140MB in size. As for the Android 12 update, users will have to wait for a couple of months more before it finally gets released.
Google has also recently rolled out a host of user-facing features to the Chromecast with Google TV to improve the interface. This includes introducing “Proactive Personalized Results” to your TV. The new feature can keep you up to date on the latest game score, weather, news, and more, even when your TV is idle. It is enabled by default, but you can turn it off by heading to the Settings > Accounts & Sign in > Google Account > toggle Proactive Personalized Results.
