Wi-Fi is a necessity in this modern world, and it’s something people in the west have been enjoying over the years. We have cities offering free Wi-Fi hotspots at public places, shopping malls, and stadiums, and now you can use free Wi-Fi services at any of Indian Railways’ 6,100 stations across the country. The service is even now available in remote stations in the North East region and in the Kashmir valley.
The service falls under RailTel, which is a public sector undertaking under the Ministry of Railways. RailTel, the Mini Ratna company of Railways, is providing state-of-the-art public Wi-Fi services under the brand name ‘Railwire’. These station numbers were recently released by the Ministry, and as per the organization maintaining these hotspot zones, out of the above 6,100 stations, more than 5,000 stations are in rural areas.
