The update brings a host of new feature additions like new and improved watch faces, gesture controls, and improved fall detection. The update started rolling out on October 20, 2021, for the Bluetooth versions of the Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic, with LTE variants to follow soon. If you are a fitness freak, then you can choose the new ‘Info Brick’ watch face, which displays your activity stats, heart rate, stress, and other fitness data so that you can keep a tab on your fitness regime. There’s a ‘Weather Center’ watch face that provides a detailed weather analysis and forecast. The ‘Basic Dashboard’ watch face can be customised with up to four complications (bits and pieces of information ranging from weather to steps). The ‘Live Wallpapers’ watch face shows a live wallpaper to match the home screen on a compatible smartphone that is paired with the smartwatch.
The ‘MyPhoto+’ watch face, which was already present on the Galaxy Watch 4 series, has been improved. It now allows you to set a GIF as a background image. The ‘Animals’ watch face is now getting complications towards the edge of the dial to display battery life, reminders, messages, step count, and a lot more.
The ‘Steps Challenge’ watch face gets some cool new animations as well. It keeps a track of your activity and an animated bear cheers for you to keep you motivated and changes its appearance depending on how far you are from reaching your daily steps goal.
The new gesture controls allow you to use certain features by just simple hand movements without having to press any buttons or the screen on the watch. A simple ‘knock, knock’ gesture with your wrist will open your favourite app, workouts, or any favourite feature.
Samsung had introduced ‘Fall Detection’ to its Galaxy smartwatch lineup in 2020. It was capable of detecting if the wearer took a tumble down during exercise. Now, Samsung has fine-tuned the ‘Fall Detection’ feature further for the Galaxy Watch 4 to let users adjust its sensitivity. For instance, even if you trip over something and fall down while standing still, the Galaxy Watch 4 or the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic will still send an emergency notification to up to four pre-selected contacts. Additionally, the company is throwing in a 60-day free Strava subscription for Galaxy Watch users.
