Garmin’s latest Instinct 2 and Instinct 2 Solar smartwatches come with designs and features built for adventure lovers. The Garmin Instinct 2 Solar smartwatch doesn’t require charging and is touted to offer an unlimited battery life, which should be beneficial while trekking and hiking. The vanilla Instinct 2 doesn’t get the solar charging tech and is claimed to last up to four weeks on the smartwatch mode.
It’s not the first time Garmin has shod a smartwatch with solar charging capability. It was first introduced in its Fenix 6 smartwatch. The recently launched Fenix 7, which is the company’s flagship watch, also boasts of this feature. Garmin says it has improved the solar charging tech and has now incorporated it in its mid-range Instinct 2 smartwatches.

The Garmin Instinct 2 and Instinct 2 Solar smartwatches carry a rugged design for those who indulge in outdoor activities. These come with MIL-STD 810 certification for shock resistance. The Garmin watches come with up to 100 metres of water resistance, to withstand splashes of rain, and you can take them for a swim as well.
The Garmin Instinct 2 series of watches come with monochrome transflective memory-in-pixel LCDs with 176 x 176 pixels resolution. This type of display improves outdoor visibility and are also energy efficient. The display also comes with a layer of scratch-resistant glass protection.
You can pair the watches with the Garmin Connect IQ store to download the latest watch faces, widgets, apps, and a lot more. The smartwatches get a slew of essential features such as advanced sleep monitoring, sleep score, stress monitoring, and heart rate, among other features. Fitness freaks will love features such as Fitness Age, Training Status/Load/Effect, Recovery time, and workout suggestions.
The smartwatches are equipped with GPS + GLONASS for accurate fitness tracking. Garmin has made sure that it includes all the necessary sensors such as SpO2 (Blood Oxygen), heart rate, thermometer, altimeter, barometer, and compass.
The Instinct 2 Surf Editions will come with watersports related features and a tides widget. There’s a Tactical Edition, which is built for the armed forces. It comes with a Kill Switch, which wipes all the data if required. Other features of the Tactical edition include Stealth Mode, Night Vision Goggle support, Jumpmaster Activity, Dual Format Position Coordinates, and more. Garmin also offers a dēzl Edition, which is meant for professional truck drivers.
Garmin Instinct 2, Instinct 2 Solar Price, Availability
The Garmin Instinct 2 Solar smartwatch comes in a 45mm size, whereas the Instinct 2S Solar comes with a 40mm dial to suit smaller wrist sizes. The Instinct 2 Solar and Instinct 2S Solar Standard Edition smartwatches come at a starting price of $449 (approx. ₹33,817). The Instinct 2 and Instinct 2S, without the solar feature, start at $349 (approx. ₹26,285).
