Google has announced its latest Android 12 Go edition, a watered-down version of the Android 12 OS, to run efficiently on budget smartphones. This announcement comes a couple of months after the Android 12 OS launch.

The animation transitions have also been made smoother. The SplashScreen API also makes an appearance in the Go Edition, and it will allow developers to provide a fluid experience with their apps.

The Android 12 Go edition will hibernate apps which haven’t been in use for a long time to improve battery life and RAM. Android Go devices usually come with an abysmal 2 GB of RAM, and this new feature promises a lag-free experience. The system will also notify you about apps that are in hibernation.
Android 12 Go comes with some intelligent convenience features. If you accidentally delete some files, the preloaded Files Go app will allow you to recover the files within 30 days. While reading news via the Chrome browser, you can navigate to the recent app screen and choose to listen to the news or to translate it in your preferred language.

Nearby Share and Google Play allows you to directly beam your files to nearby devices with just a tap. The Android 12 Go edition will enable you to make guest profiles on the home screen itself, making it easier to switch between them if you have to share your phone with others. You can even reset the guest profile once they return your device.
Another major highlight of the Android 12 Go is the Privacy dashboard feature. It will notify you via a snapshot of the shady apps which are trying to access your data. You will also be notified via icons in the status bar when the apps access the microphone or the camera. That’s not all, the new Approximate location permissions feature will share only the approximate location and not the precise location information with the apps.

Google says that over 200 million of the global population enjoy Android Go on their smartphones since its launch in 2017. With the availability of the latest Go edition, we could see manufacturers coming out with roadmaps of the update for their respective devices soon.
