If you are using a Chromebook, you can now update to Chrome OS 98 update via the stable channel. The latest update brings new emojis, visual changes, an improved screen capture tool, revamped language settings menu, and some bug fixes, among other features. The update rollout will be in a phased manner and might take some time to reach your Chromebook.
The Chrome OS 98’s exact firmware version is 98.0.4758.91. You can check if it is available in your region by heading to Settings > About Chrome OS > Check for updates. Make sure you have backed up all your data before proceeding with the update.
Chrome OS 98 Features
The latest Google Chrome OS 98 supports 37 new emojis with Emoji 14.0. The screen capture tool allows you to select the destination to save new screen grabs. Earlier, it used to save it to the Downloads folder by default, but now you can choose to save it to Google Drive cloud storage or external storage options such as a pen drive.
To use it, open the screen capture tool by accessing the quick settings menu. Once it is open, click on its settings icon to open its options. Here, you will see the “Select Folder” option, which you can opt for according to your preference.
The update has added a new shortcut that makes it convenient to swap between virtual desks. Just press Shift + Search + The designated virtual desk number and you’ll be transferred to another desk.
Previously, the Document Scanning tool lacked the ability to crop images manually. Now, the update adds the manual edit function, which enables you to adjust four points on your document image to crop it according to your need, before saving it.
Other noteworthy additions include Network Based Recovery (NBR), enhanced scrolling performance using the mouse in ARC apps, Dark mode flag for the virtual keyboard, full dark theme for the Chromebook’s Files System Web App, a new font format, Google Play Store search disabled in the launcher, and several bug fixes.
