Google launched its latest high-end smartphones—Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro—last month. The Mountain View-based tech giant might soon add a cheaper model to the Pixel 6 series. A new leak by Steve Hemmerstoffer (@OnLeaks) and 91Mobiles suggests that the company is working on a more affordable Pixel 6 smartphone: Google Pixel 6a. Steve also shared high-resolution renders and some key specifications of the Pixel 6a.
Google Pixel 6a Design
The Google Pixel 6a appears to resemble its higher-end siblings—Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro—in terms of design. It borrows the visor-shaped camera module that grabbed the attention on social media during the launch of the Pixel 6 series. The upcoming smartphone will feature a glass sandwich design and the rear panel will feature a dual-tone finish, similar to the Pixel 6 and the Pixel 6 Pro. The chassis seems to be made up of metal as signal reception antennas can be clearly seen in the 3D CAD-based renders.
At the front, the handset appears to feature a modern, bezel-less display with a punch-hole-shaped cutout towards the top-centre part of the screen, but there is a noticeable chin towards the bottom. The display panel will reportedly feature an optical in-display fingerprint scanner. On the rear, the handset will have a dual-camera setup with an LED flash.

The left side of the device will have the SIM card slot. The USB Type-C charging port, primary microphone, and the primary loudspeaker will reside at the bottom. At the top, there could be the secondary microphone. The handset is said to measure around 152.2 x 71.8 x 8.7mm. Taking the camera bump into consideration will take the phone’s thickness to around 10.4mm.
Google Pixel 6a: Features and Specifications
The Google Pixel 6a 5G is said to feature a 6.2-inch flat OLED display with a centred punch-hole cutout and an in-display fingerprint scanner. We can expect it to feature Full HD+ resolution. The handset might be equipped with Google’s Tensor processor or a mid-range chipset like the Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G.
Rumours also suggest that Google Pixel 6a might pack some upgrade in terms of camera hardware like the Pixel 6, which means that it could have a 50MP Samsung ISOCELL GN1 camera sensor and an ultrawide camera. We can expect Google to offer 6GB and 128GB storage. One thing that we know for sure is that Pixel 6a will run Android 12 out of the box and offer support with at least three major Android OS updates and security updates for five years.
Google decided not to bring the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro handsets to India. It will be interesting to see if the Pixel 6a will come to India. As of now, Google is selling only one Pixel handset in India: Google Pixel 4a.
