Over the last few device cycles, Google has been releasing something called a ‘Pixel Feature Drop’, where the brand rolls out new features to Pixel devices. The company just rolled out its tenth Feature Drop update, which brings Live Captions for voice calls, Night Sight in the Snapchat app, the option to convert words to emojis in the Gboard keyboard, and a few other features.
But in an interesting twist, Google announced that these features will be coming to the Pixel 3a onwards and up to the Pixel 5. The Pixel 6 and the Pixel 6 Pro will gain these features “later this month.” Let us discuss these new features in detail.
Google Pixel Feature Drop March 2022 Update: List Of All Features
- Live Caption For Calls
- Night Sight Mode In Snapchat For Better Low-Light Snaps
- Convert Words To Emojis In Gboard
- Support For More Languages
- New At A Glance Widget
1. Live Caption For Calls
It’s no secret that Google is at the forefront of AI, and the company is leveraging its lead in most of the Google products we use right now. Building upon that, Pixel devices will now be able to generate Live Captions for calls.
This feature will recognise a person’s speech on the call and convert that to text automatically, making it easier to understand what the person on the other end of the call is saying. It will also let you reply using text, which is then converted to speech and relayed to the other person. This feature will be rolling out to North American users at the moment.
2. Night Sight Mode In Snapchat For Better Low-Light Snaps, Videos
The next big feature is the availability of Night Sight (Night Mode) within the Snapchat app. This will help Pixel users capture clearer, low-light pictures and videos. Android devices have always been on the back burner for Snapchat, but this is changing now. With partnerships inked with Samsung and Google, Snapchat is now focusing its attention on delivering a quality experience on Android devices as well.
3. Convert Words To Emojis In Gboard
A feature that will surely be enjoyed by the masses is the ability to convert words into emojis in Gboard. This feature will be rolling out to Pixel users starting today if the language is set to English (US). Your Pixel will help you express more with the help of emoji, emoji kitchen, and custom sticker suggestions while you type.
4. Support For More Languages
Google is rolling out a new interpreter mode that will now help translate your face-to-face conversations with Spanish, Italian, and French speakers right on your phone. This can be triggered by the command “Hey Google, be my Spanish interpreter.” The thing to note here is that this feature will only work on the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro for now.
Along with this, the Pixel 6 and the Pixel 6 Pro, can now identify Spanish in videos and other media and then translate it automatically into any of the supported languages: English, French, Italian, German, Japanese (Beta) and Spanish.
5. New At A Glance Widget
With the new At A Glance widget, a supported Pixel device will ensure that you get the most helpful information at just the right time. The feature will now be more pronounced in certain areas, like showing the battery levels of your Pixel Buds and other Bluetooth-connected devices, earthquake alerts for your area, reminders to turn off your alarm, and more, right on your lock and home screen.
Additionally, Direct My Call and Wait Times feature will be available for all Pixel smartphones, including the Pixel 3a and newer devices. The Pixel 6 and the Pixel 6 Pro exclusively get a new Recorder that will transcribe in Italian and Spanish, and Assistant Quick Phrases will be available in Spanish, Italian, and French.
