Google had launched its “Switch to Android” app for iOS users a few months ago without much fanfare. The app makes it easier for users to transfer their iPhone data to a new Android device. However, the app only supported Google Pixel devices when it launched. Now, Google has announced support for Android 12 devices as well, widening the reach of the app.
Switch To Android: Features
Back in 2015, Apple launched a “Move to iOS” app for Android users to transfer data from Android devices to iPhone. Google was late to the party, as it released its Switch to Android app just a few months back in April. Its description on the App Store says, “The Switch to Android app from Google helps you quickly and securely move your most important data types — photos, videos, contacts, and calendar events — to a brand-new Android device without fussy cables.”
Transferring data from your iPhone to Android is fairly easy with the app. After installing and launching the Switch to Android app on iOS, the app will prompt you to connect your Android device with your iPhone wirelessly in the app or via a cable. It will then guide you through the transfer process, which will allow you to migrate data such as photos, videos, contacts, and calendar events.

If you choose to migrate data from iPhone to your Android device via cable, you will be able to transfer SMS, MMS as well as iMessage text and media. WhatsApp message history and media can also be migrated easily. Moreover, photos and videos stored on your iPhone can also be moved. Media stored in iCloud can be transferred by submitting a request to transfer at privacy.apple.com. Do note that only apps that are free on the App Store can be transferred.
