Honor has confirmed that it is working on its flagship foldable smartphone—the Honor Magic V. The company shared the teaser through a post on Weibo. It revealed an image of the smartphone sporting a clamshell fold design. It will soon join the ranks of Samsung, Motorola, Oppo and Huawei, all of which have released their own foldable smartphones in the past year.
The company offered a sneak peek into the handset as well as the hinge holding the dual screens together. The upcoming foldable phone is rumoured to sport a clamshell design with flat edges on the front, perhaps to offer better grip. Honor did not furnish any more details on its first foldable smartphone.
Honor Magic V: Rumoured Specifications, Price
Digital Chat Station tipster said that Honor will be launching its first foldable smartphone in January 2022. He further claimed that the device could be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC, which will arrive in January next year. It is speculated that the Honor Magic V could come with a launch price of CNY 10,000 (roughly ₹1.18 lakh). Further speculations suggest that it could feature an AMOLED display and 120Hz refresh rate. We can expect the detailed list of specifications after its rumoured launch in January 2022.
Honor recently released the Honor Play 30 Plus 5G smartphone in China. It comes with 6.74-inch TFT LCD display and has a resolution of 1,600×720 pixels with a 90Hz refresh rate. The device is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 700 SoC and retails from CNY 1,099 (roughly ₹13,100). Pre-orders started on December 16 and it will be available for purchase from December 31.
Honor was founded by Huwaei to cater to the mid-range smartphone market in China and around the world. After Huawei was subjected to sanctions by the US, Honor split from its parent company in 2020.
Huawei, Honor’s parent company was seen teasing the Huawei P50 Pocket, its first flip-smartphone. It is a pocket-sized clamshell foldable smartphone and is set to be unveiled today in China.
