They say, “Home is where the Wi-Fi is”. It is a little wonder then, these days the first thing guests ask for is the Wi-Fi password. Sharing it seems like a straightforward task but it can be tricky when you are hosting a house party. Dictating your Wi-Fi password in the chaos doesn’t go well. The mandatory upper case letters and special characters make your life difficult. Things get worse if your password is YourCrush’sName@123. There’s no way in hell you are going to say it out loud! Don’t worry though as there’s a simple and reliable way of sharing your Wi-Fi with friends. I know it sounds too good to be true, but read on to find out how:
- Make sure your phone is connected to your Wi-Fi router.
- Go to your phone’s Settings – Connections – Wi-Fi.
- Click on your home Wi-Fi network. For me, it is C404. Tap on the ‘cog icon’ on the right. Select the ‘QR code’ option and your phone will generate a QR code.
- Ask the guests to navigate to Settings – Connections – Wi-Fi.
- Request guests to click the ‘scan icon’ on the top right of the screen. A QR scanner interface will fire up.
- Ask them to scan the QR code displayed on your phone. Their phone will instantly connect to your Wi-Fi router.
If scanning QR codes is too much trouble, there’s a better alternative to it.
- Ensure that your phone is connected to Wi-Fi. Activate Bluetooth on and set visibility to ‘Everyone’.
- Ask your guests to activate Wi-Fi as well as Bluetooth.
- Go to your phone’s Settings – Connections – Wi-Fi.
- Click on your home Wi-Fi network. Tap on the ‘cog icon’ on the right. Select the ‘QR code’ option. Tap the ‘Nearby Share’ option placed below the QR code.
- Your phone will notify the other handsets that a “Device nearby is sharing”.
- As the guests accept the invitation, your phone will generate a list of devices on your phone.
- You can click on an individual device and accept it in your Wi-Fi network.
