Huawei has introduced the company’s first E-Ink tablet at its Spring 2022 Smart Office launch event, dubbed the MatePad Paper. The tablet has a 10.3-inch greyscale display and is designed for reading and writing down notes. The MatePad Paper also supports Huawei’s second-gen M-Pencil with 4096 pressure sensitivity levels.

The Huawei MatePad Paper will be available for €499 (around $558 / ₹ 42,060) in Europe. The tablet’s packaging includes an M-Pencil and a Folio Cover.

The Huawei MatePad Paper has a 10.3-inch FullView E-Ink display with a resolution of 1872 x 1404 pixels, a screen-to-body ratio of 86.3 per cent, and smart refresh rate support. The Huawei E-Ink tablet is intended for reading and taking notes. The E Ink display is completely legible under direct sunlight, compared to the traditional OLED/AMOLED panels.
The Huawei tablet can show text, photos, and movies in 256 colours of greyscale, according to the company. There are 32 levels of backlighting on the tablet. A Hexa-core processor, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of internal storage power the MatePad Paper. There’s support for the company’s second-generation M-Pencil, allowing users to take notes, annotate, and modify books and other materials. The M-Pencil is claimed to have 4096 pressure sensitivity levels and low latency of 26 milliseconds.
Connectivity options on the MatePad Paper include Wi-Fi 6 with 2 x 2 MIMO, Bluetooth 5.2, OTG, USB 2.0, and wireless screen projection. The E-Ink tablet runs HarmonyOS 2, with the ability to quickly connect the tablet to Huawei manufactured smartphones, laptops, PCs and tablets.
Under the hood, there is a 3625mAh battery that is claimed to last up to 28 days on standby. The battery pack supports 22.5W fast charging which can deliver up to 6 days of battery life with a 1.5-hour charge. The tablet also enables reverse charging and has a fingerprint scanner integrated into the power button on the side.
