Huawei has finally launched its first clamshell foldable phone—the Huawei P50 Pocket, in China today. However, there is no word on the device’s launch in the international market.
The Huawei P50 Pocket phone was first teased in Harper’s Bazaar China, early this month. The Huawei P50 Pocket Premium Edition was designed in collaboration with designer Iris van Herpen, who is known for combining technology with fashion. The premium edition phone comes with a metallic gold or silver tone with a leaf pattern on top.
Huawei P50 Pocket: Specifications, Features
The Huawei P50 Pocket comes with a company patented hinge mechanism, and no folding gap when closed. It has a 6.9-inch 120Hz OLED main screen with a 21:9 aspect ratio and a resolution of 2790 x 1188 pixels. There is a punch-hole cutout on the top of the phone where the selfie camera resides.
The Huawei P50 Pocket’s 1-inch cover screen has its own service widgets for apps like maps, music players as well as QR codes. It also displays notifications without you having to open the phone. While using maps, you can start navigation on the big screen and once you close the phone, you can resume seeing the turn-by-turn directions on the cover screen.
When it comes to cameras, it has a 40MP main camera, along with a 13MP f/2.2 ultrawide snapper, as well as a 32MP f/1.8 ultra-spectrum camera. Built into the main display is a punch-hole camera, but Huawei claims that the phone’s design makes it more convenient to use the main camera for selfies, with the cover screen working as a viewfinder.
The Huawei P50 Pocket comes with Snapdragon 888 4G along with 8/12GB RAM and 256/512GB storage. It supports HarmonyOS. Its battery has a capacity of 4,000mAh as well as 40W wired charging. When unfolded, the phone is 7.2mm thick, whereas it is 15.2mm thick when folded. The Huawei P50 Pocket weighs just 190 grams.
Huawei P50 Pocket: Price, Availability
The Huawei P50 Pocket is available in three colours, black, Diamond White, and Premium Gold Edition. Among these, the black variant will not be available for sale outside China. The device will be available in China at a starting price of CNY 8,988 (roughly ₹1,06,000). Whereas, the premium Gold Edition will retail for CNY 10,988 (roughly ₹1,29,900). There are no details yet regarding the Huawei P50 Pocket’s availability in the international market.
