The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has announced that it plans to establish 230 EV-charging centres. This proposal comes as a part of the policies of the Centre and the State government to boost the adoption of electric vehicles and to reduce carbon emission. Furthermore, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) aims to set up an additional 100 stations within its limits. Thus, Hyderabad will be getting 330 EV charging stations in total.
As per an official release, the Telangana State Renewable Energy Development Corporation (TSREDCO) has allowed GHMC to establish EV charging centres within the city. The release states, “GHMC submitted 230 and HMDA submitted 100 locations to TSREDCO for installation of electric vehicle-charging centres. Each location has high-speed charging with DC-001(15KW) capacity and low charging with C (122-150 KW) capacity facilities. These charging centres will be set up accordingly at the feasibility of locations and further the petroleum corporations also install charging stations according to their convenience.”

The body will also look at its revenue generation capabilities before establishing additional centres in the region. The release adds that it will take survey reports and locations suggested by the civic body into consideration before installing the charging centres.
Hyderabad isn’t the only city making strides in the EV space. Cities such as Delhi, Noida, New Chandigarh, Ludhiana, Patiala, Amritsar, and Jaipur will also be getting EV charging stations, as a part of a Jio-bp joint venture. A few weeks back, Jio-bp teamed up with Omaxe to set up EV charging and swapping facilities at their properties. That’s not all, Jio-bp had announced in April that it is joining hands with TVS Motor Company to establish a comprehensive public EV charging infrastructure for electric two-wheelers and three-wheelers throughout India.
