While Mark Gurman and Ming-Chi Kuo are drip-feeding their insights about the 2022 iPhone 14 smartphone, Apple analyst Jeff Pu has decided to sit this out. Instead, he has shared information regarding the optics of the 2023 iPhone 15. According to a report, Pu said that the iPhone 15 top variants could be equipped with a periscope camera sensor with a capability of 10x optical zoom.
The current iPhone 13 Pro comes with a 3x telephoto lens and is lagging behind in comparison to the Android flagship smartphones. Its arch-rival Samsung S21 Ultra already comes with a periscope lens capable of up to 10x optical zoom and a ludicrous 100x hybrid zoom. 2021’s Mi 11 Ultra too came with a better 5x optical zoom. Many industry experts believe that the iPhone 14 would come with a periscope camera, but Pu’s report shoots down those reports. So, it will be a while before Apple fans would be able to experience superior zooming capabilities.

Apple was the first to introduce the display notch and the physical fingerprint sensor. But it seems that Apple has turned into a late adopter of technology in recent times. The Cupertino-based firm is said to have finally patented the periscope camera system. The periscope camera tech works with the sensor and the zoom lens placed sideways inside the phone’s body. This allows the large camera setup to be placed more efficiently and also keeps the camera module thickness in check. Also, the periscope camera allows you to capture distant objects while preserving the details when compared to a standard telephoto lens.
Also, there are speculations that the iPhone 15 models may ditch physical SIM cards in favour of E-SIM. The Cupertino-based giant is also expected to remove the physical charging port altogether and go ahead with improved wireless charging solutions for is 2023 iPhone 15.
Would you upgrade to the iPhone 15 just for its periscope camera? What are your thoughts about the E-SIM only phone? Let us know in the comments section below.
