Kia, a company that quickly climbed to prominence in the Indian market with its Seltos and Sonet SUVs, is preparing to debut its first EV. The EV6 has been tested in the Indian market for some time now, and the company has announced that bookings for this model will begin on May 26. The EV6 is expected to go on sale sometime in June.

Because this is a CBU, and in order to justify the high prices, the brand may include some optional equipment as standard on this India-bound model. The EV6 is built on the e-GMP platform and has Kia’s new ‘Opposites United’ design philosophy.
Both the outside and interior of the vehicle are given a modern makeover. The EV6 comes standard with linked car technology, a dual-screen layout, an augmented reality heads-up display, and ADAS (advanced driver assistance systems) safety features.
The EV6 comes with a 58kWh battery pack in two configurations—rear-wheel drive (RWD) with a 170hp single-motor setup and all-wheel drive (AWD) with a 235hp, dual-motor setup. There is also a long-range model with a 77.4kWh battery pack that is paired with either a 229hp single-motor setup in RWD mode, or a 325hp dual-motor setup in AWD mode, or a top-of-the-line GT performance model with a dual-motor AWD arrangement that produces 585hp and 740Nm. There is no news on which models will make it to India, but we hope Kia brings many models to offer customers a larger selection and performance options.
Kia’s EV Plans
Kia is rumoured to be working on a new e-Niro in addition to the EV6 India launch. This model is rumoured to be locally built and marketed as a mass-market EV. Hyundai, Kia’s sister brand, has also vowed to offer at least six EV cars in the country by 2024.
