After overtaking Qualcomm in the budget, mid-range, and upper mid-range mobile chipset segment and topping the smartphone chipset market, MediaTek is aiming to beat Qualcomm in the flagship smartphone space. MediaTek has announced the Dimensity 9000 mobile processor which is much more powerful than the company’s current offerings. It will go against the Qualcomm Snapdragon 898 and Samsung Exynos 2200. MediaTek has achieved an incredible feat by announcing the world’s chipset to be manufactured on the 4nm fabrication process. It is built on TSMC’s (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company) 4nm process and brings some incremental improvements in heating and speeds, owing to the larger number of transistors in comparison to Samsung’s 5nm process.

MediaTek claims that the ARM X2 core gets a 35% speed boost and a 37% improved efficiency over the Cortex-X1 CPU core found in the Exynos 2100 and the Snapdragon 888. The three super cores are also ARM’s latest available, and we finally see the new efficiency Cortex-A510 CPU cores, which replace the ageing ARM A55 CPU cores. The Dimensity 9000 has 8MB of L3 cache and 6MB of system-level cache (SLC) in comparison to the 4MB of L3 cache and 3MB of SLC on the Snapdragon 888.
Talking about the graphics, the Dimensity 9000 is armed with a 10-core ARM Mali-G710 GPU. MediaTek is bullish with its performance, claiming about a 35% performance boost while being 60% more power-efficient than the Snapdragon 888’s Adreno GPU. MediaTek even showed a slide that showed the Dimensity 9000’s GPU performing slightly better than Apple’s A15 Bionic chipset, which is the world’s best when it comes to smartphone graphics performance.
The processor supports displays with up to a 180Hz refresh rate at Full HD+ resolution and a 144Hz refresh rate at QHD+ resolution. The chipset gets a hexa-core APU (Accelerated Processing Unit) with four performance and two efficiency cores, promising up to 4x performance over the previous generation.
The Dimensity 9000’s triple-ISP (Image Signal Processor) design lends it the ludicrous capability to capture 4K HDR video on three cameras simultaneously. It can also handle three 32MP cameras and is the world’s first ISP capable of shooting 320MP still images. The processor supports sub-6GHz and mmWave 5G, Bluetooth 5.3, Wi-Fi 6E, and USB Type-C ports.
Since the Dimensity 9000’s core cluster is based on ARM’s v9 architecture which uses 64-bit computing, older apps based on 32-bit architectures will not work on this processor.
When Will Smartphones With MediaTek Dimensity 9000 Processor Launch?
Expect new flagship smartphones powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity 9000 SoC to launch by Q1 of 2022. It is being reported that all major Android smartphone manufacturers, including ASUS, OnePlus, OPPO, Realme, Samsung, Vivo, and Xiaomi are testing the Dimensity 9000 processor. A mysterious Vivo device, powered by the Dimensity 9000 processor, scored a whopping 10,02,220 points on the Antutu benchmark, which is the highest by an Android-powered smartphone to date.
