The new Windows HDR Calibration program, similar to the Xbox HDR Calibration app, will allow gamers to increase the colour accuracy and consistency of an HDR display. Calibrating HDR is necessary since not all screens have the same brightness levels. If Windows is unable to correctly identify a panel’s maximum and minimum brightness, information in bright and dark portions of the image might take a hit.
It will apparently contain three test patterns for HDR calibration, one to find the darkest visible detail, one to identify the brightest visible detail, and one to assess how bright your display can be. Users on the Dev channel who are using the latest release may see a new section called HDR Display Calibration under System > Display > HDR settings. While the application has not yet gone live, the approach described above should bring you to the announcement page.
In addition, the manufacturer has included a new Optimizations for windowed games feature to the graphics section of the Windows 11 Settings interface, which will apply to older DirectX 10 and DirectX 11 games. The firm claims to have tweaked DirectX in both Windows 10 and Windows 11 to improve the performance of games in windowed mode. For games that operate in windowed mode, the addition of this feature could mean reduced latency and features including Auto HDR and variable refresh rate.
