Motorola’s flagship smartphone, the Moto Edge X30, which was launched in China towards the end of 2021, finally went global on February 24. Interestingly, it carries different nomenclatures in various regions. In India, it is called the Motorola Edge 30 Pro, while in the US it is launched as the Motorola Edge+, and gets some minor changes. The Motorola Edge+ is offered with an optional stylus pen, which the Indian variant doesn’t get. Also, Verizon customers will get the handset with an integrated mmWave 5G tech.

The display supports a peak brightness of up to 700nits and gets HDR10+ and DCI-P3 colour gamut. Corning’s Gorilla Glass 3 promises to protect the display from accidental drops.
The handset is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor built on Samsung’s 4nm fabrication process. It is equipped with up to 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage. In comparison, the Indian Motorola Edge 30 Pro comes with only the 8GB RAM + 128 GB storage option.
The Edge 30 Pro packs in a triple-rear camera comprising of the primary 50MP OmniVision OV50A40 sensor with an f/1.88 aperture. Its “all-pixel” Omni-directional PDAF allows for faster clicks and sharp image output. The presence of OIS (Optical Image Stabilisation) and pixel binning tech allows the sensor to capture more light, which could be beneficial for night photography.
The ancillary cameras are the 50MP ultra-wide-angle lens with an f/2.2 aperture and a 2MP depth sensor with an f/2.4 aperture. You can also shoot macro images with the ultrawide camera as it enables you to reach as close as 2.5cm to the subject. The selfie duties are handled by a 60MP snapper with an f/2.2 aperture. The handset is capable of recording 8K videos at 24fps and 4K videos at 60fps. Moreover, the selfie shooter can also record 8K videos at 24fps.
Other noteworthy features include 5G, mmWave, Bluetooth v5.2, NFC, IP52 dust/water resistance, stereo speakers, fingerprint sensor, and USB Type-C, among many others. The Motorola Edge+ is powered by a 4,800mAh battery under its hood but gets 30-watt fast charging support, which is slower than the 68-watt TurboPower charging support offered on the Indian unit. The smartphone also gets 15-watt wireless charging support. The Motorola Edge+ runs on Android 12 out of the box. Motorola has assured it will get two major Android OS and three years of security updates.
Motorola Edge+ Price, Availability
The new Motorola Edge+ (2022) is priced at $999 (approx. ₹75,000) but is currently available at an introductory price of $899 (approx. ₹67,500). You can purchase the unlocked version via Best Buy and Amazon. The company has confirmed it will be available with major US carriers in a couple of months.
