MSI has taken the wraps off ten new laptops at the MSIology event. The company’s entry-level laptops, the Modern 14 and Modern 15, are now refreshed for 2022, and get Intel’s 12th Generation Alder Lake CPU power. Despite being entry-level notebooks, the Modern 14 and Modern 15 laptops came with an aluminium build and some features that could put its rivals to shame.
However, MSI appears to have resorted to cost-cutting as the 2022 models seem to have replaced the unique hinge design with a rather conventional looking one. Also, there’s no mention of a metal body, which is a bummer. Thankfully, the white keyboard backlighting has been retained.

The laptop is powered by up to 12th Generation Core i7 processors coupled with Intel Iris Xe graphics. It will be equipped with up to 16GB of DDR4 RAM and NVMe SSD storage. The MSI Modern 15 gets dual 2W stereo speakers with Hi-Res Audio support for an immersive audio-video experience.
Connectivity ports include one USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port, one USB 2.0 Type- A port, one USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A port, microSD card slot, HDMI, and an audio jack. Other notable features include a 720p HD camera, Wi-Fi 6, and Bluetooth v5.2, among others. The MSI Modern 15 is powered by a three-cell battery coupled with 100W fast charging support. The laptop qualifies as a thin and light notebook and weighs just 1.7kg.
MSI Modern 14: Features, Specifications
The MSI Modern 14 flaunts a smaller 14-inch Full HD+ IPS-level display. It is powered with up to 12th Generation Intel Core i7 processors coupled with Intel Iris Xe graphics. The notebook is equipped with 16GB of DDR4 RAM and will come with multiple capacities of NVMe SSD storage options.
For entertainment purposes, the laptop comes with dual 2-watt speakers with Hi-Res Audio support. In terms of connectivity, it gets Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth v5.2 connectivity, one USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port, one USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A port, one USB 2.0 Type-A port, HDMI, an audio jack, and a microSD card reader, among others. It gets a Full HD webcam with Windows Hello support and a webcam lock switch. The notebook is powered by a three-cell battery with 65-watt fast charging tech. It is ultra-light as it weighs just 1.4 kg.
