Netflix has dropped the prices of its subscription plans in India. This move by the American streaming giant has been taken to expand its userbase as there has been stiff competition from rivals Amazon Prime and Disney+ Hotstar. After the revised pricing, the plan rates have been slashed by up to 60%. The Netflix Mobile plan now starts at ₹149. The Basic plan, which used to cost ₹499, is now priced at ₹199. Earlier, the Mobile plan used to cost ₹199 per month. It is one of the cheapest plans that are offered by Netflix, and under this plan, users can stream 480p content on one mobile device (mobile or tablet).
Moving onto the Basic plan, it now costs ₹199 (as opposed to ₹499 earlier). Under this plan, users can stream 480p content on one device at a time (mobile, tablet, computer, or TV). Netflix has also reduced the cost of its Standard plan. It now costs ₹449, and it used to cost ₹649. The Standard plan allows users to stream Full HD 1080p content on two devices simultaneously.
The Premium plan now costs ₹649 as opposed to its original price of ₹799. The plan is 19% cheaper, and under this plan, users can stream 4K HDR content on up to four screens simultaneously.
Commenting on the Netflix New Prices, Monika Shergill, Vice President, Content, Netflix India, said:
Over the last three weeks, we have been rolling out big titles. And as per the Netflix calendar, we will have big titles across series and films coming out regularly. And it is the kind of content that is programmed for a very large audience. And now that content is ready for this large audience, it was just the right time to go deeper, to appeal to a wider base. The aim is to create value through entertainment but also at great prices.
