In response to the ongoing Ukraine invasion, the popular video service TikTok has temporarily suspended new video uploads and live streams on its app in Russia. Taking it a step further, the streaming giant Netflix has completely shut down operations in the country following the attack on Ukraine. With this, both companies have joined the growing list of businesses pulling back on their operations in Russia.
Let’s check out the list of all services banned in Russia after the Ukraine war.

Numerous businesses have decided to shut their operations in Russia amid the Russia-Ukraine war. Joining the list, TikTok said that it is suspending the livestreaming of its video services in Russia, as the recently passed “fake news” law is aimed at restricting information about its invasion of Ukraine. The law was signed off by Russian President Vladimir Putin last week.
In light of Russia’s new ‘fake news’ law, we have no choice but to suspend livestreaming and new content to our video service while we review the safety implications of this law. Our in-app messaging service will not be affected.

Furthermore, Netflix has announced the complete suspension of its services to protest Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine. Notably, the suspension comes a week after Netflix refused to comply with a Russian law requiring it to host propaganda channels such as NTV and the state-backed Channel One.
Given the circumstances on the ground, we have decided to suspend our service in Russia.

This decision brings to halt all Netflix productions and acquisitions in Russia, including four Russian originals the streamer had been working on. However, there is no clarity on whether the Netflix subscriptions, totalling around 1 million in the country, will be suspended or revoked entirely.

Besides, all of Hollywood’s major studios including Disney, Warner Brothers, Paramount Pictures, and Sony have decided to cut ties with Russia, refusing to open big films such as The Batman, Turning Red, and Sonic the Hedgehog 2 in Russian theatres.
Earlier this week, tech giants Microsoft, Google, Apple, and Samsung also suspended their sales in Russia. Following the invasion of Ukraine, Russia had already blocked Facebook and restricted access to Twitter.
