Vivo has appointed Nipun Marya as the CEO of iQOO India. iQOO entered the Indian market in 2019 and was headed by Gagan Arora since then. Arora will still continue his stint in the company as director of marketing. Marya earlier held the position of Director, Brand Marketing at Vivo mobiles India for five years. Vivo has now entrusted Marya with the responsibility of iQOO’s Indian operations, intending to increase its market share in the country.
Marya calls himself a ‘Perpetual Quester’ on Twitter and you can see his tweets asking fans about their favourite mobile games. His tweets were made a week before this announcement suggesting that he was transitioning from a camera-centric brand to a gaming-centric brand.

“Nipun has successfully led Vivo’s expansion and brand evolution in the India market. His deep understanding and consistent focus on consumer understanding have helped Vivo grow its brand strength and preference over the years. We are delighted to see him assume charge as iQOO’s CEO and are confident he will play a pivotal role in cementing the brand’s position within the India market.”
iQOO’s first product for India was the iQOO 3 smartphone, which was launched back in 2020 and came with a Snapdragon 865, air triggers, and efficient cooling tech. But it received a lukewarm response due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But the brand, under Arora, came back stronger in 2021 with its iQOO 7 being the top performer for the company. Its portfolio in India consists of other smartphones like the iQOO 7 Legend, iQOO Z3, and the iQOO Z5, which cover the mid-range, upper mid-range and flagship categories of smartphones.
According to Marya, iQOO was the fastest growing brand in India in 2021. The company managed to garner a 5.1 percent online market share in the smartphones above ₹15,000 category. He vows to take it further to 10 percent in 2022 under his leadership. He says that the major focus of the company will be the upper-midrange and flagship space in India, which is currently enjoyed by Realme and OnePlus. The upcoming iQOO 9 series could possibly be the first range of smartphones to launch under the leadership of Marya. Also, it would be interesting to see how he plans to improve the after-sales service going forward.
