Nokia is finally seeding the Android 11 update to its Nokia 7.2 smartphone. The Nokia 7.2 was launched back in 2019 and is currently running on the Android 10 OS (Operating System) with the December 2021 security patch. The Android 11 update with firmware version V3.490 is rolling out and is 1.57 GB in size. However, it is still on December 2021 Google’s security patch. The update brings some tweaks to the user interface and some system stability improvements along with the Android 11 OS. Interested peeps can go to Settings > About phone > System updates > Check for updates to download the latest firmware OTA (Over-the-air).
While other manufacturers are pushing Android 12 updates to their devices, the Nokia 7.2 users will have to be content with what’s offered. Suffice to say, Nokia is giving step-motherly treatment to its older devices. Google had announced the Android 11 OS way back in September 2020. Nokia promised to deliver the Android 11 to its smartphones by Q2 of 2021, which eventually got delayed. Then in May 2021, it published a roadmap for its devices, which included the Nokia 7.2, scheduled to get the Android 11 update in Q3 2021. Nokia failed to honour its commitment again as we are already in 2022. That’s almost a year and a half since the Android 11 was first launched.

But unfortunately, it’s the complete opposite in this case. Delays and bug-ridden software updates have upset many Nokia fans who expected a lot from the Finnish brand.
In an interview with Android Authority, HMD CMO Stephan Taylor, commented on the challenges and the root causes for delayed updates. He said that not participating in the Android 11 beta program did hurt them badly. Also, the company’s wide variety of smartphones in every budget category became a major hurdle in developing and pushing out updates. Taylor added that, going forward, the company will be focusing on the software aspect more. Moreover, the company has participated in the Android 12 beta program, thereby implying that the Android 12 updates to its latest smartphones will be delivered on time, leaving the Android 11 fiasco behind.
