Okinawa Autotech, an Indian electric two-wheeler manufacturer, has recalled 3,215 units of its Praise Pro electric scooters in India. The automaker has identified a battery related issue and will diagnose and fix the affected units. The company released a statement stating that it has set up comprehensive power pack health check-up camps to rectify the problems.
The company said, “The batteries will be checked for loose connectors or any damage and be repaired free of charge at any of the Okinawa authorised dealerships pan India.” Okinawa has appointed its dealer partners to resolve the issues. The owners of the affected units will be contacted individually and the service will be provided at the convenience of the owners. The company added, “This voluntary campaign is in the wake of the recent thermal incident and in line with the company’s long-standing commitment to customer safety”.

In March, 2022, a father and his 13 year old daughter, residents of Tamil Nadu, lost their lives after their Okinawa electric scooter exploded. The vehicle was plugged in for charging overnight when the incident occurred. Also, an Okinawa dealership in Tamil Nadu, India, recently went up in flames.
Okinawa isn’t the only company that has faced these issues. Ola Electric, Pure EV, and Jitendra EV scooters are some of the brands whose electric vehicles caught fire recently. The road transport ministry of India has notified that the Centre for Fire Explosive and Environment Safety (CFEES) has been asked to probe into the matter and also suggest remedial measures.
