Ola Electric Co-Founder and CEO Bhavish Aggarwal added that the company is investigating the matter and will fix it.
The incident has set alarm bells ringing for both, owners of the Ola S1 Pro and those planning to buy one. According to reports, the reason behind an EV catching fire could be due to poor quality lithium-ion cells or a faulty battery management system.
“We are aware of an incident in Pune that happened with one of our scooters and are investigating to understand the root cause and will share more updates in the next few days. We’re in constant touch with the customer who is absolutely safe. Vehicle safety is of paramount importance at Ola and we are committed to the highest quality standards in our products. We take this incident seriously and will take appropriate action and share more in the coming days”, Ola said in a statement.
The Ola S1 Pro is not the first electric scooter to catch fire. Just last week, an Okinawa electric scooter caught fire in Vellore, Tamil Nadu, taking the lives of a 49-year-old man and his daughter.
