OnePlus has announced the Android 12 Closed Beta Testing program for the OnePlus 8, OnePlus 8 Pro, and the OnePlus 8T. The Chinese firm took it to OnePlus Community to make the announcement. To recall, the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro handsets were launched in April 2020 and the OnePlus 8T was launched in October 2020. All three devices run Android 11-based OxygenOS 11 out of the box. To those unaware, OnePlus Closed Beta Testing is the initial phase of testing, after which the company announces Public Beta which is then followed by the stable update to all the users.
OnePlus is adopting a new CBT (Closed Beta) strategy which is different from the previous long-term CBT. The company has decided to go with a short-term Closed Beta Project so that it can focus on improving the upcoming major release. OnePlus plans to recruit 200 OnePlus 8T and 200 OnePlus 8/8 Pro users for the Android 12 CBT program. The company says that the CBT group requires absolute secrecy and hence the selected participants will be required to sign an NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreement) with the company.

OnePlus has a plan to reward the excellent performers of the CBT program with gifts. The company also warns users that few CBT firmware builds might require a clean flash and might cause data loss. So, users must take a backup of their data regularly.
We can expect the company to commence OxygenOS 12 CBT program this month and hope the company to release Android 12 Stable builds for all three devices in 2021. However, users should keep in mind that the chances for Android 12 Stable build to hit OnePlus 8, OnePlus 8T, and OnePlus 8 Pro devices this year are slim.
