The OnePlus Nord CE was launched in India in June 2021 and was the cheapest offering by the brand in the country. Now, the company has introduced its successor, the Nord CE 2, which brings an improved design, faster processor, and enhanced fast charging speeds, among other features. The Nord CE’s back design was inspired by the original OnePlus Nord. Similarly, the Nord CE 2 inherits design cues from the OnePlus Nord 2. However, just like its predecessor, the Nord CE 2 is also built entirely of polycarbonate. Also, like its predecessor, this one too misses out on the alert slider, which is the hallmark of OnePlus smartphones. However, the addition of a dedicated microSD card slot is the first of a kind on a OnePlus smartphone in India. Since the 5G rollout in India is imminent, folks would appreciate the eight 5G bands available on this device.

It sports a 6.43-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display with a 90Hz screen refresh rate as before. It comes with a 20:9 aspect ratio and HDR10+ certification. The display is protected by a layer of Corning’s Gorilla Glass 5, which should protect it from accidental drops. It retains the in-display optical fingerprint reader.
While the Nord CE came with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon processor, the Nord CE 2 switches to the MediaTek Dimensity 900 SoC, which is built on TSMC’s 6-nanometer fabrication process. The switch from an 8nm processor to a 6nm processor should improve its energy efficiency. Also with this move, the entire lineup of OnePlus Nord devices in India is now powered by MediaTek’s processors.
In the camera department, the Nord CE 2 inherits the same set of cameras as the Nord CE, which is the OmniVision 64MP primary sensor and the ancillary 8MP ultra-wide, and a 2MP macro sensor. For selfie addicts, there’s a 16MP shooter housed in the hole-punch cutout at the top left corner of the screen.
The Nord CE 2 is powered by a 4,500mAh battery, but gets an upgrade in the form of a faster 65W SuperVOOC charging support. The company says it can survive for a whole day with just 15 minutes of charging. Other notable features include USB-C, 3.5mm audio jack, a dedicated microSD card slot, Bluetooth v5.2, Wi-Fi-6, GPS, GLONASS, BDS, GALILEO, NFC, among others. It also gets all the essential sensors like gyroscope, accelerometer, proximity, and compass. The Nord CE 2 lacks stereo speakers and comes with just one mono speaker at the bottom. The handset runs on Oxygen OS 11 on top of Android 11 out of the box. OnePlus assures that the device will get two major Android OS updates and three years of security patches.
