In June 2021, OnePlus announced a deeper integration with OPPO and revealed that it would share resources with the latter, including software. The brand announced that it would soon unveil a new custom Unified OS for its devices, but has not done it till date. As of now, OnePlus has ditched its HydrogenOS skin for its devices selling in China and has replaced it with ColorOS. As for the global market, however, things might still take some more time, as suggested by a new report. If an exclusive report by MySmartPrice is to be believed, OnePlus will unveil its Unified OS alongside a new flagship smartphone sometime in H2, 2022.

The new Unified OS will be unveiled in the second half of 2022, but an actual launch date (or even a month) is unknown for now. What’s been reported is that OnePlus will unveil the Unified OS alongside a flagship smartphone, presumably the brand’s purported ultra flagship OnePlus 10 Ultra.
Furthermore, it is also being said that Unified OS will be based on Android 13, which is also expected to go official this fall. Both Android 13 and Unified OS, therefore, will most likely become a reality somewhere around October 2022. This, however, is nowhere near confirmed, so we would suggest our readers to take the news with a slight pinch of salt until we get clarification from official sources.

In related news, a recent trademark filing by OnePlus has also caused the rumour mill to speculate that the upcoming custom skin by the brand could be dubbed H2OOS or, well, Water OS. This could make sense considering the brand’s reliance on elemental vocabulary (Oxygen and Hydrogen) for its previous-generation skins.
As of now, this is all the information that we have on the upcoming Unified OS, but we are sure to receive more intel on the same in the coming days. Meanwhile, what are your thoughts on OnePlus possibly incorporating a custom skin called Water OS on its smartphones? Do let us know in the comments section below.
