OPPO was among a handful of smartphone makers to continue including chargers in the box, even after a trend that started with Apple swiftly spread throughout the whole industry. Now, it appears that the company will at least partially join the rest of the sector, by no longer bundling a charger with its smartphone.
Billy Zhang, VP of Overseas Sales and Services at OPPO, reportedly disclosed in a group interview that the company will remove the charger from the box for certain of its devices. “We will take the charger out of the box in the next year for several products. We have a plan,” Zhang said during the interview.

However, additional remarks he made imply that OPPO may be adopting a strategic approach to its choice, with some regions receiving it and others not.
He was further quoted saying, “It’s not that easy for consumers to get access to our charger, so we have to keep it in the box. However, as we are expanding our business operations, we are looking to taking chargers out of the box and put them in the store so that our users are able to buy the chargers and continue using them even when they upgrade their devices.”
According to the statement, OPPO appears to be considering the availability of SuperVOOC compatible chargers in the market when deciding where to apply its strategy. It is likely that the company may be considering ultimately eliminating chargers from all of its devices given the future of portless smartphones. Or perhaps it might be working on adding a new revenue stream by selling chargers separately. What do you think? Let us know in the comments below.
