The US-based chipset giant Qualcomm has officially launched its first smartphone in collaboration with smartphone maker ASUS. Qualcomm is calling this device ‘Smartphone for Snapdragon Insiders’. Quite a mouthful, isn’t it? It is a high-end smartphone that is designed for the company’s loyalty programme called Snapdragon Insiders, which was launched in March 2021. The Qualcomm Smartphone for Snapdragon Insiders sports a 144Hz AMOLED display, a Snapdragon 888 SoC, 512GB internal storage, and a 64MP triple-camera setup.

The phone will be available in the Midnight Blue colour. In the US, the device will cost $1,499 (Rs. 1,12,200). Starting August 2021, the Smartphone for Snapdragon Insiders will be available in the UK, China, Germany, Japan, Korea, the US, and India.
The device will come with a premium bundle that consists of an MW08SI active noise cancelling truly wireless earbuds (a variant of the Master & Dynamic MW08), a Qualcomm Quick Charge 5.0 charger, a custom-made bumper case, one USB Type-C to USB Type-A braided cable, and a USB Type-C to USB Type-C braided cable.

The Qualcomm Smartphone for Snapdragon Insiders sports a 6.78-inch Samsung-made AMOLED display that has Full HD+ resolution (2,448 x 1,080 pixels), an aspect ratio of 20:9, 1200 nits of peak brightness, and a 144Hz refresh rate. The display has HDR10 and HDR10+ support, and it covers 111.23% of DCI-P3 and 106.87% of the NTSC colour gamut. The display is protected using a Corning Gorilla Glass Victus panel.
Under the hood, the device uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset, 16GB LPDDR5 RAM, and 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage. The handset is equipped with a third-generation Snapdragon X60 5G modem that supports 5G (sub-6GHz and mmWave bands) and includes the Qualcomm Signal Boost and Smart Transmit technologies for enhanced connectivity performance. The phone runs Android 11 out of the box and it will get three major Android OS updates.
The device features a triple-camera setup at the rear, which consists of a 64MP Sony IMX686 primary sensor with an F1.8 lens. The 64MP camera is accompanied by a 12MP ultrawide camera and an 8-megapixel telephoto camera with a 3x optical zoom. The primary and telephoto cameras are equipped with optical image stabilization (OIS). For selfies and video-calling, the device sports a 24MP front-facing camera.
The phone also features Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Sound which can deliver glitch-free premium audio even in congested environments. The Snapdragon Sound feature also makes sure that the phone can deliver 24-bit, 96KHz music streaming along with ultra-low latency of just 89ms. The smartphone houses a rear-facing fingerprint sensor and dual stereo speakers.
Connectivity-wise the device has a 5G support, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth v5.2 with aptX Adaptive support, NFC, GPS/ A-GPS/ NavIC, and a USB Type-C port. The handset even has a Snapdragon icon on the back which illuminates in white when you get a new voice call or message. The phone packs a 4000mAh battery which offers 30W fast charging support. Dimensions-wise the handset measures around 173.15×77.25×9.55mm and weighs 210 grams.
