Qualcomm, at its MWC event, announced the Snapdragon X70 5G 4m Modem-RF System. This is the fifth-generation 5G modem-to-antenna solution and is the successor to the Snapdragon X65 modem. The USP of the X70 modem is its ability to connect to every commercial band, from 600 MHz to 41 GHz. This will essentially eliminate the problem that buyers usually face when travelling across the globe with a phone that won’t work in a particular region.
With this new generation of X70 modem, Qualcomm is focused on speed and stability. Along with this, the X70 is also the first to use AI to enhance throughput as well as energy efficiency. The AI here can essentially tweak the chip’s performance on the fly to cater to any type of network and fulfil the basic requirements. The Snapdragon X70 inherits the 10Gbps 5G peak download speed from its predecessor and brings new features such as switched uplink, enabling 3.5 Gbps peak upload speeds.

This modem is, of course, made on 4nm and will be baked into the next-generation Snapdragon mobile processors, followed by PCs. The Snapdragon X70 is expected to roll out to OEMs for sampling in the second half of 2022, and commercial mobile devices are expected to be launched by late 2022.
