While many existing 5G deployments fall back to 4G or VoLTE to carry the voice links, as the deployment of 5G gains steam in India, it becomes imperative for telcos to offer voice over the 5G network. This is achieved by VoNR.
Once VoNR solutions are deployed, network providers will be able to offer customers high-definition voice experience over 5G. Moreover, you can expect various advanced voice applications and use cases in the future. Employing 5G network for both voice and data services could provide a reliable and low latency network.
Aayush Bhatnagar, Reliance Jio’s telco’s senior vice president (SVP) said in a Linkedin post, “After trialing advanced 5G services and scenarios, Jio has upgraded its 4G VoLTE network and integrated its Indigenous 5G core to trial 5G VoNR with 4G VoLTE”. He added, “This includes seamless interoperability between existing 4G voice/video capable devices with enhanced 5G voice and video devices using our 5G network”.

Bhatnagar added that Jio had brought VoLTE at a large scale in India back in 2016, and is the only network in the world with no CSFB (Circuit Switched FallBack). He said, “We continue to lead in the latest advancements by maturing Voice over 5GNR using our indigenous 5G stack”.
Jio President Mathew Oommen told The Economic Times that the firm is working on building “right platforms” for its 5G services. Moreover, it is open to join hands with a “third party technology” for the same.
