Samsung has begun rolling out a new update for its Galaxy Buds 2. The new update for the Buds 2 adds the 360 Audio feature from the Galaxy Buds Pro. This feature, similar to Apple’s implementation of Spatial Audio on the AirPods 3, adjusts the direction of audio to match head motions when activated.
Let’s take a closer look at the new update for the Galaxy Buds 2, features, changelog, and more.
360 Audio From Galaxy Buds Pro Now Available On Buds 2
The latest Galaxy Buds 2 update bears firmware version R177XXU0AVC8 and adds the 360 Audio feature. Samsung says that the new update also brings call quality and Bluetooth improvements to the mix. The update arrives as a 3MB download, which is pretty small in size.
360 Audio is Samsung’s take on the 3D audio effect, which gives a surround sound 360-degree experience on compatible earphones, which is similar to Sony’s 360 Reality Audio and Apple’s Spatial Audio. The Galaxy Buds Pro, which launched early last year, were the first Samsung earbuds to come with 360 Audio.
Users must note that it’s not enough to just have 360 Audio-capable earphones, they’ll also need to be linked to a Samsung Galaxy smartphone or tablet running One UI 3.1 or later. Hence, the buds will have to be linked to a Samsung device to take advantage of the new feature.
To check for updates, first pair your Galaxy Buds 2 with the Galaxy Wearable app. Navigate to the Galaxy Wearable app and choose Earbuds Settings. Lastly, press Earbuds Software Update towards the bottom of the screen.
The Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 features a design that is similar to the Galaxy Buds Pro and uses a Bluetooth 5.2 chip that supports AAC, SBC, and SSC (Samsung Scalable Codecs). The earbuds have a dual-driver setup comprising an 11mm woofer and 6.3mm tweeters. The Galaxy Buds 2 have six microphones in total which offer ANC (Active Noise Cancellation) to remove background noise while listening to music and making calls.
