The latest information from Samsung’s home country, South Korea, suggests that the company has killed the Galaxy Note smartphone series after all. Samsung didn’t launch successors to the Galaxy Note 20 and the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. Also, the company seems to be focussing on its foldable smartphones going forward, and the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and the Galaxy Z Flip 3 have been flying off store shelves. The new report suggests that Samsung is estimating an annual shipment target of 13 million units for the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and the Galaxy Z Fold 4 in 2022. Comparatively, it managed to ship only 9.7 million units of the Galaxy Note series in 2020.
The company is also working towards improving its foldable smartphone technology and reducing production costs. This would enable them to bring new foldable devices at more affordable prices. Moreover, launching a new Galaxy Note series phone at similar prices as the foldable phones would make it a DoA (Dead on Arrival) product. Hence, comes the decision to finally kill the Galaxy Note series.
Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra Leaks, Speculations
However, Galaxy Note fans shouldn’t be disappointed as leaked images of the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra suggest that the device will essentially be a Galaxy Note 22 Ultra. The leaked real-life images provide a detailed look at its overall design, which is unmistakably Galaxy Note. The device comes with a squared-off design and a matte-finished rear glass. It has flat top and bottom sides, with the inclusion of an S-Pen silo, which would make the Galaxy S22 Ultra the first Galaxy ‘S’ series of smartphones to get it. It is expected to sport a 6.8-inch Super AMOLED display with QHD+ resolution.
The Galaxy S22 Ultra is rumoured to be powered by the Samsung Exynos 2200 built on a 4nm fabrication process. It will feature ARM’s latest V9 cores (Cortex-X2, Cortex-A710, and Cortex-A510) and AMD’s RDNA 2 GPU. Some countries will get the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1-equipped smartphones, and MediaTek’s recently-announced Dimensity 9000 chipset.
Talking about the rear cameras, the phone comes with a 108MP+12MP+10MP+10MP quad-camera setup. According to reliable tipster Ice Universe (@UniverseIce) primary 108MP shooter will be an improved version of Samsung’s ISOCELL HM3 sensor. It could also get enhanced 8K video shooting capabilities. The 12MP ultrawide cameras and two 10MP telephoto cameras (3x zoom and 10x zoom) will feature the same specifications as that of the Galaxy S21 Ultra, but they will use Sony’s sensors for slightly improved performance.
According to leakster Jon Prosser, the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, and the Galaxy S22 Ultra will be unveiled at the Samsung Unpacked 2022 event, which will be held on February 8, 2022. Pre-orders will commence on the same day and the phone will go on sale on February 18, 2021.
