It has not been that long since we saw Samsung announce the Galaxy Watch 4 series, and now the rumour mills are already churning out Watch 5 rumours. The Galaxy Watch 4 saw a major departure on Samsung’s end, with the brand making a move towards WearOS. New rumors from Korea suggest that the upcoming Galaxy Watch 5 will come with body temperature monitoring.
That being said, the Galaxy Watch 5 will retain all the important sensors the Watch 4 had, including the body composition measurement for skeletal muscle mass, basal metabolic rate, body water, and body fat percentage. There have been other wearables on the market that have had similar features, but embedding a temperature sensor has always been tricky. Skin temperature detection can be affected by external factors such as sunlight and exercise.

Some reports also mention that the company is considering bringing this feature to the Galaxy Buds, and it is said to use infrared wavelengths emitted from the eardrum to the earbuds to measure the temperature.
Just for a refresher, the Watch 4 was the very first watch from Samsung to come with the latest WearOS build that has been jointly developed by Google and Samsung. The watch is available in two flavors—a sports-oriented model and a regular model. The Watch 4 starts at $300 in most markets and ₹23,000 in India.
The Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 with body temperature monitoring, along with the Galaxy Buds, are expected to be released in August of this year.
