Samsung Electronics unveiled its latest PM1743 SSD with PCIe 5.0 interface and Samsung’s 6th Generation V-NAND ahead of CES 2022. The PM1743 SSD hard drive is developed for only enterprise customers and not for regular users. But you can expect Samsung to bring out PCIe 5.0 SSDs for regular customers, since the latest Intel’s 12th Generation Alder Lake CPUs support PCIe 5.0.
Samsung states that the PCIe 5.0 offers double the bandwidth of PCIe 4.0 with 32 GT/s (Gigatransfers per second). The PM1743 will provide a sequential read speed of up to 13,000 MB/s and a random speed of up to 2,500K IOPS (input/output operations per second). The sequential write speed has also received a bump as it now offers 6,600 MB/s and a random write speed of 250K IOPS.

This will help in bringing down the data centre operational costs by a huge margin.
Samsung says that the PM1743 is one of the industry’s first PCIe 5.0 SSD with dual-port support. It helps in maintaining server operational stability and availability when the connection to one port drops.
The Samsung PM1743 will be offered in wide storage options ranging from 2 TB to 16 TB. It will come in 2.5-inch and in a 3-inch EDSFF (E3.S) form factor, which is a current favourite SSD form factor for enterprise servers and data centres. The EDSFF brings superior signal integrity and thermal efficiency and is apt for most PCIe 5.0 enterprise solutions.
Samsung says it is providing units of the PM1743 SSD to chipset and server makers around the globe for joint system development. The company plans will commence production of the PM1743 SSD in the first quarter of 2022.
