1. Hold The Power Button To Turn On The OPPO Phone
The first thing that you need to do is to locate the power button on your OPPO smartphone. Use the quick start guide that came inside the phone’s box to find the power button. The power button on OPPO smartphones usually comes embossed with a green vertical strip, which will make it fairly easy for you to locate the button. Once you locate it, you need to press and hold the power button until you receive haptic (vibrational) feedback. The moment you receive the feedback, you can let go of the power button and the setup process will initiate.
2. Select Your Preferred Language
Your OPPO smartphone will now greet you with a Hello!, and you will need to press the next icon to proceed with the setup process. After pressing next, your OPPO smartphone will ask you to select a language. English (United States) will be the default selected language, but you can change it as per your preference. There are plenty of languages to choose from, varying from several regional languages to a ton of global languages.
Additionally, the same page will provide you with the option of making emergency calls, should you really need to. Once you are done selecting your preferred language, you can hit Next.

3. Read Legal Information, Accept Terms & Conditions
Your OPPO smartphone will now showcase the legal information that you should be aware of. If you want to save time, you can tap the I have read and agree to the terms above, but we would urge you to go through the User Agreement, User Privacy Security and Protection, User Experience Program, and System Stability Improvement Program clauses to have in-depth knowledge about your privacy rights, the company’s privacy policy, and other terms and conditions. You can read everything in detail by tapping the i buttons.
Permission | Required? |
---|---|
Use Agreement | Yes |
User Privacy Security And Protection | Yes |
User Experience Program | No |
System Stability Improvement Program | No |
The User Experience Program and System Stability Improvement Program are optional and you don’t need to agree to those terms. We personally wouldn’t agree to those, and we recommend you do the same.
4. Connect To Wi-Fi Network
Your OPPO smartphone will now prompt you to connect to a Wi-Fi network. The device will display all the available Wi-Fi networks in its proximity, and you can connect to the one you prefer by entering the valid network credentials.
If the network is open, you need not enter a password. That being said, if you don’t want to connect to a Wi-Fi network right away and want to do it later, you can skip to the next page. However, if you want your OPPO device to be set up properly, connecting to Wi-Fi is a wise move, as the device will ask you to install several apps during the setup process.
5. Agree To Google Services, Related Permissions
Your OPPO smartphone is powered by the Android operating system, so it has to rely upon various Google services in order to function properly. Your device will now ask you to grant/deny permissions to various Google services, such as permission to use location, allow scanning for Wi-Fi networks, send usage and diagnostic data, and more. Depending on your personal preference, you can enable/disable the Google services in this menu. Once you are done, you can tap the Accept button and move to the next page.
Permission | Required? |
---|---|
Use Location | Yes |
Allow Scanning | No |
Send Usage And Diagnostic Data | No |
6. HeyTap Cloud And More OPPO Services
HeyTap is OPPO’s in-house cloud-based service, which offers a variety of features and services, including an App Marketplace, Global Search, Theme Store, Game Center, Browser, and data backup service on the cloud. This service is strictly optional, and all the features it offers are already provided by Google, which means that you don’t have to sign in to these services. If you want to, you can either create a new account with OPPO or can sign in using your existing account. If you don’t, you can skip to the next page.
7. Choose UI Navigation Style
Your new OPPO smartphone comes packed with Android’s new gesture navigation, but it still provides you with the ability to choose the old or new method. You can either navigate your smartphone using gestures or you can rely upon the age-old Android navigation buttons (Back, Home, Recent Apps).
If you are unfamiliar with gesture-based UI navigation, this step provides you with a tutorial for it. Lastly, you can always change the navigation method after the initial setup process through the device’s Settings menu.

8. Choose Preferred Unlock Method
You can protect your smartphone using PIN, Password, or Pattern Unlock. However, your new OPPO smartphone most likely also comes with more advanced biometric unlocking mechanisms such as Facial Unlock and a Fingerprint Unlock.
Facial Unlock is relatively less secure, and if you want utmost security, the Fingerprint Unlock mechanism is the one you should choose. For both methods, however, you would still need a PIN, Password, or Pattern as a backup.
9. Recommended Settings
This is an optional menu that asks you to grant permission to your OPPO phone to auto-update its software late at night when you’re not using the phone. This saves you from the hassle of waiting for the software update to complete and then waiting for the device to restart during daytime. Depending upon your personal preference, you can enable/disable this option.
10. Welcome!
