It is a relatively small home theatre speaker intended for small spaces. It can be controlled via the touch controls on top of the soundbar or alternatively, you can use the Sonos app.
The Sonos Ray sports Class-D amplifiers, two tweeters, and two subwoofers that promise a powerful sound output. The company says that since the tweeters and subwoofers are forward-facing, the sound doesn’t bounce off the walls if you tuck it in a media stand. Its TruePlay algorithm utilises your smartphone’s microphone to analyse your room’s audio signature and adjusts the EQ settings accordingly. Bear in mind that this feature is only available for iOS devices and not Android devices.
The Sonos Ray uses Wi-Fi to stream audio from a range of popular services. It also allows multi-room playback with other Sonos speakers. Moreover, you can send songs to the device via AirPlay 2 and Spotify Connect.
On the downside, you can’t voice control it via Alexa or Google Assistant as it is devoid of microphones. The soundbar lacks an HDMI port but can connect to your television via the optical port. The Sonos Ray supports Dolby Digital and DTS Digital Surround but lacks Dolby Atmos support compared to other Sonos home theatre systems.
Sonos Ray: Price, Availability
The Sonos Ray is priced at $279 (approx. ₹21,600) in the US. It will go on sale on June 7, 2022 in all the regions where the brand has its presence. It comes in black and white colourways.
