Sony Announces New BRAVIA XR TV Lineup Featuring Quantum Dot OLED TVs and Mini-LED TVs

Sony is bringing its A-game to TV technology by showcasing a variety of TVs at CES 2022. The company has added mini-LED TVs to its kitty with its Sony Bravia XR TV line-up.

The stars of the series are the 75 and 85-inch MASTER Series Z9K 8K Mini LED models, the company’s very first mini-LED TVs. The MASTER Series A95K OLED TV, the world’s first Quantum Dot OLED TV, will get 55 and 65-inch models. Not to be left behind, the X95K 4K Mini LED TV will gain 65, 75 and 85-inch models. What’s noteworthy among this year’s line-up is that Samsung Display’s own QD-OLED panel graces the A95K.

Cognitive Processor XR

Sony’s “Cognitive Processor” will try to emulate the way the human brain processes images and cross-analyze a section of elements in one sweep, as opposed to Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology that only analyzes certain elements on the screen one at a time. This allows it to enhance images to add life-like depth, contrast, and also reproduce vivid colours.

Sony’s Cognitive Processor XR powers its XR Backlight Master Drive to “control thousands of tiny, ultra-dense Mini LEDs with absolute precision and independence, delivering extraordinary brightness, impressive dynamic range, deep blacks, and beautifully natural colors.”

Acoustic Surface Audio+, Multi-Audio

Sony Bravia XR’s OLED TVs will come with the Acoustic Surface Audio+ feature, whereas the LED TVs will have the Acoustic Multi-Audio feature.

Acoustic Surface Audio uses special actuators, along with two large actuators and two subwoofers, to transform the screen into a multi-channel speaker. This intends to match the sound with what’s shown on screen.

Multi-Audio uses four frame tweeters at the top as well as both sides of the TV “to elevate directional sound sources, ensuring pictures and sound are in total harmony for a more cinematic experience”. It also comes with front-firing speakers and dual subwoofers.

Bravia Cam

Sony also announced the Bravia Cam webcam which will let you control TV functions with gestures. It will come with some of Sony’s high-end models. They can also be purchased as an add-on with other models. The webcam will be able to recognize gestures such as raising your hand or making a fist, which can be used to control various TV functions.

If you’re nostalgic for the times when your mother would scold you for getting too close to the TV, Sony has you covered. The Bravia cam will alert you if you get too close to the screen. However, it is to be noted that it will function as a simple webcam initially, none of these features will be available at launch. You will be able to enjoy these features once the TV gets the firmware update post-launch.

Details such as price and retail availability for the Sony BRAVIA XR TV lineup aren’t available yet. Sony has informed that these details will be announced in spring 2022.
