They can be placed asymmetrically to meet different requirements, making it the perfect choice for rooms that aren’t designed with a home theatre in mind. Also, there’s no requirement for the speakers to be placed at a certain distance from each other or at a specified height. The Sony HT-A9 offers a 7.1 channel setup with up to 504W of sound output.
Sony states that the HT-A9 uses Sound Field Optimisation tech that utilises the dual microphones in each speaker unit to assess the relative height and position to create 12 phantom speakers. This provides a 360-degree Spatial surround sound effect in the room. The Sound Field Optimisation feature can be switched on via the remote and the four speakers communicate wirelessly with each other for auto-calibration.
The HT-A9 home theatre system also comes with the flexibility to add an optional SA-SW5 or the SA-SW3 subwoofer for folks who want more bass. The system supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, optical port, HDMI eARC via the HDMI 2.1 pass-through port. Apart from Dolby Atmos and Dolby Digital, it also supports Dolby Dual mono, LPCM 2ch, and LPCM fs(48kHz) audio formats. It supports AAC, SBC, and LDAC codecs for Bluetooth.
