Sony has begun pushing out a new PS5 update that adds several much-requested features to the platform. The much-anticipated new system software update for the PS5 featuring 1440p HDMI video output capabilities, gamelists, and new social features is officially out of beta testing and ready for download internationally. Following two months of beta testing, which began in July of this year, the new function is now accessible to the entire public.
The latest iteration also includes a slew of social features, such as the ability to request a Share Screen from a fellow party member, check new friends’ profiles, and receive a notification from a party chat to let you join a friend’s game more quickly. Let’s take a closer look at the new changes to the PS5, features, and everything we know so far.
Sony PS5 System Software Update with Gamelists, 1440p Now Available To Download
With the new 1440p resolution, Playstation 5 owners may choose this resolution on compatible TVs and monitors. This capability will be available on 1440p 60Hz or 120Hz TVs and monitors. This means you can play certain games at 1440p resolution and high frame rates. However, PS5 gamers cannot use VRR in 1440p because it is only supported in 1080p and 4K. If a game fully supports 1440p, it will output at that quality natively; else, 4K titles will enhance anti-aliasing by supersampling down to 1440p output.
The new version now includes the option to use Voice Command to search for content on YouTube. Users may now say “Hey PlayStation, find [keyword] on YouTube” from anywhere on the PS5, even during gameplay, and the YouTube app will open up the appropriate search results.
Gamelists, which allows you to build specific lists for your games, are also part of the update. It was first seen in the beta rolled out in July. A list may contain up to 100 games, and Sony gives you the option of building 15 lists. This could be really helpful if you have a large game library. The PS5 update adds new social features, such as the option to request a Screen Share from other players in the same party. It’s also easy to check your friends’ profiles now, and you’ll receive a reminder to join a friend’s game from the party chat.
Finally, Sony claims that users can now compare 3D audio and stereo audio on the same screen and access in-progress Activities from game hubs more quickly.
