At the beginning of the year, Sony had announced the PlayStation VR2, its next gen VR headset, at CES 2022. Just yesterday, the company showed off the first photos of the upcoming headset along with a variety of design as well as functional changes. Moreover, it shared the final design image of the PSVR2 Sense controller.

However, the upcoming headset sports a rounder design “since it is meant to have constant human contact”, whereas the PS5 console features flat edges as it is intended to be placed on a flat surface. The company adds that its goal is to not only create a stylish headset that will go well with your décor, but also to provide an immersive gaming experience.
Sony PSVR2 Headset Features
Sony says that it has rigorously tested the ergonomics of the headset to fit most head sizes comfortably by balancing the weight of the headset and providing an adjustable headband. Other notable features include an adjustable scope, lens adjustment dial along with a new built-in motor for feedback. The PlayStation maker notes that it was able to create a sleeker design and achieve weight reduction despite the newly added features.
That’s not all, Sony’s PSVR2 headset sports a new vent design to prevent the lens from fogging up while gaming. Those who wear spectacles must be familiar with this phenomenon.
Yujin Morisawa, Senior Art Director explains the design:
Our engineers came up with this idea as a good way to allow ventilation and avoid having the lens fog up while players are immersed in their VR games. I worked on many design concepts to achieve this, and in the final design, you can see there is a little space in between the top and front surface of the scope that contains the integrated ventilation.
Just last month, Sony had shared the specifications of the PSVR2, confirming that it will sport an OLED display with a resolution of 2000×2040 per eye. Moreover, it will feature eye tracking, 3D audio, and headset feedback.
