Sony has added two new wireless headphones to its list of audio products. First up, is the Sony WH-XB910N wireless over-the-ear headphones. As per the Japanese company, these headphones deliver boosted bass, improved noise-cancelling, and multipoint Bluetooth connections. The other product is the wireless pair of earbuds dubbed Sony WF-C500. It offers a snug fit, sound customisations, and water resistance. Both these earphones feature Sony’s Digital Sound Enhancement Engine (DSEE) engine that promises to “restore high-frequency sound.” Let us find out what else these headphones have to offer.

You can swivel the earcups inward and pack the headphones inside a carry case. The WH-XB910N is a closed dynamic type headphone with 25mm drivers. It uses Neodymium magnets and an aluminium composite diaphragm. According to Sony, the WH-XB910N has a frequency response of 5Hz – 40,000Hz. Over Bluetooth, the device’s impedance is 18 ohms. Sony also gives you an option to opt for a wired connection, which offers a 50-ohm impedance.
The wireless headphone relies on a touch panel to control the playback controls. You can skip tracks and adjust volume with swipe and tap gestures. As per Sony, the Sony WH-XB910N offers digital noise cancellation. If you are heading for a jog, the headphone even gives you an option to let in some ambient sound for situational awareness.
The headphone is tuned for those who enjoy bass. As per the product page, the WH-XB910N has a dedicated bass duct to deliver punchy lows. You can, however, tailor the sound profile to your taste via Sony’s Headphones Connect companion app on Android and iOS.
Sony’s wireless headphone plays nice with Alexa and Google Assitant. It is also compatible with Google’s Fast Pair, which enables easy pairing and a quick way to locate headphones. Owing to Sony’s Multipoint connection, these headphones can be paired with two devices simultaneously. The company claims that these headphones can last up to 30 hours of playback on a single charge. A 10-minute recharge is enough to provide around 4.5 hours of usage.
Sony WF-C500 Earbuds Features
The Japanese brand is positioning the Sony WF-C500 truly wireless earbuds as an ideal option for those making a switch from wired IEMs to wireless earbuds. The company claims that it has utilised years of research data to design the latest WF-C500 earbuds. The buds are said to have an ergonomic design, resulting in a secure fit. These are rated at IPX4 for water splash and sweat resistance.
The earbuds pack in 5.8mm drivers with a neodymium magnet. Using Sony’s Headphones Connect app, you can tune these earbuds as per your liking. The WF-C500 onboard buttons allow you to control playback and volume without having to reach for your smartphone. These wireless earbuds are compatible with popular voice assistants such as Siri and Google Assistant. According to Sony, the built-in omnidirectional mic ensures clear voice quality during calls.
Moving onto the battery life, the Sony WF-C500 can offer up to 10 hours of audio playback on a single charge. The carry case can these buds up for another 10 hours of usage. If you run out of juice while watching a movie, a 10-minute break can provide an hour worth of juice. Sony claims that these earbuds have a low-latency mode, but hasn’t shared proper details on the product page.
Sony WH-XB910N, WF-C500 Price and Availability
The Sony WF-C500 wireless earbuds are priced at $100 (around ₹7,400) in the US. The WH-XB910N headphone is priced at $250 (around ₹18,500). The Sony WF-C500 and WH-XB910N are up for pre-order in the US and the UK starting today. These devices are expected to ship later this month. The company hasn’t revealed when it plans to launch these wireless earphones in India.
